Pilates Superstar : Taquita

It’s the people who have kept me committed to pilates for 10 years. My teachers - Lesley, Dani and Amanda - and my classmates are the key to my success”
— Taquita

Taquita has been part of the Center Street Studios community for ten years, and her journey is a powerful example of what consistent Pilates practice can do. She originally came to the studio to support her scoliosis, after years of managing pain with physical therapy and medication. Today, her spinal curvature has improved, her strength and posture have transformed, and she very seldomly experiences the back pain that once shaped her daily life.

She’s very proud of her core strength and flexibility, as she should be! Taquita especially loves feet in straps with short spine massage because it makes her feel strong and balanced on both sides of her spine. Though she doesn’t love planks and push-ups she is very proud of her progress in both.

Just as inspiring as her physical progress is her commitment to herself. Taquita shows up and brings determination, humor, and heart into every class. She describes pilates as more than exercise - it’s grounding, connection and consistency. “If I don’t do anything else, I will be at Pilates twice a week,” she says. “It’s one of the only things I’m 100 percent committed to… I always leave better than I arrived.” Her advice? “Stick with it even when you’re sore… you’ll see and feel the difference.” And if you’re lucky, like she has been, you might just find lifelong friends along the way.
